The hunger's gone

When an artist has forgotten the creative hunger pains that drove his passions in the first place, his work is in danger of becoming lukewarm, ineffective and out of touch. Case in point: Kanye West.

The College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation (my fave) were great albums. That's when Mr. West had something to say and did it with style. But now that he's arrived, the artistic hunger has disappeared. Everything comes easy now. The money, the fame, the adoration. Perhaps he thinks he doesn't have to work hard anymore. So he produces lazy schlock like this track.

"Mercy" is just about the dumbest song I have ever listened to. And its video is just about the dumbest I've ever seen. Sorry to be a hater, Kanye. But with lyrics like "I'm in that two seat Lambo with your girl she's tryna to jerk me," I think I may have to move your "cool status" down several notches.

Plus, you don't even get your Lamborghinis right. For someone so dedicated to design, I'm shocked your video features a Gallardo when your song is an ode to a Murcielago.

Ugh.

Please go back to that place of hunger and find your creative fire again. Or else I'm gonna lose my appetite.
